"Kindness."

My 85 year old mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and dementia over a year ago. About a week ago I was joking with her about the possibility of her converting from Catholicism to Buddhism or possibly Judaism or Islam. She laughed and said she'd prefer to stay with the religion she was born into.
I said, "Which religious idea from the religion you were born into do you think is the most important? That we have souls that go to Heaven or Hell when we die? That Jesus was born of a virgin? That he rose from the dead?"
She was silent for a few moments and I wondered if she'd lost focus on the conversation. But then she spoke.
"Kindness," she said. "Being kind to others."

Thanks for this story, Jim.

That is one smart Mom! If only everyone would try being kind to others we would have a peaceful world. Lovely thought!
This makes me smile.
